Choosing a Lightsaber According to Color
In the Star War’s Universe, lightsabers are precision weapons that can only be successfully wielded by a Jedi Knight (or Sith Knight), and to paraphrase Obi-Wan Kenobi: They aren’t as clumsy as a blaster and are weapons that are designed for a more civilized age. And according to Star War’s cannon, each of these weapons had to be constructed by their owner using an energy crystal that’s been imbued with the Force. That means that these sabers aren’t just effective weapons, but they’re actually an extension of the person using it.
Fortunately, people who want to own a replica of these iconic weapons don’t have to sit in a cave on Tatooine to painstakingly construct their own lightsabers. Instead, they can just find their favorite one online. Although that’s a much easier process, it doesn’t mean that the person can take the process of picking out a lightsaber lightly. There are a few things a person needs to consider before buying one of these products. Let’s find out what they are, shall we?
Lightsaber Colors & Their Meanings
The one thing to consider is the color of the lightsaber you want to buy. After all, you don’t want to pretend that you’re Luke Skywalker when you’re using a red saber or Darth Vader using a green saber. Not unless your roleplaying accounts for the intended twist. Therefore, we’ve listed some of the major colors used through the movies. By the way, when we list the movies that these sabers appear in, it’s not all of the movies that the saber is used in or even the first one it’s used in. It’s just a sample of some of the movies it can be seen in action. Okay, having settled that, let’s continue on.
Green Lightsabers
These weapons are used by Jedi Masters, Consulars and Knights. Some of the characters who’ve used these weapons include Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn, Ahsoka Tano. Some of the movies it was used in include Return Of The Jedi, Episode I-The Phantom Menace and Episode II-Attack Of The Clones.
Red Lightsabers
Sith Knights and Masters, as well as Dark Jedi Knights & Dark Jedi Masters, use red lightsabers. Some of the more iconic characters using these weapons include Darth Vader, Dark Sidious, Darth Maul, Count Dooku, Asajj Ventress, Savage Opress and Kylo Ren. Movies it was used in include Episode IV-A New Hope, Return Of The Jedi, Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back.
Blue Lightsabers
Oh, the beautiful blue sabers are some of our favorite ones. These sabers are often by Jedi Masters or Guardians who are tasked with protecting the galaxy. These weapons were wielded by no other than Obi-Wan Kenobi, Kladi-Mundi, and Anakin Skywalker. It was seen in the following movies: Episode IV-A New Hope and Star Wars-Rebels.
Purple Lightsabers
Purple sabers are some of the rarest of the lightsabers. As far as we know, they were only wielded by four individuals: Mace Windu, Jaina Solo, An’ya Kuro, and Mara Jade Skywalker. On screen, you can see it being used in Episode II-Attack Of The Clones.
Other Lightsabers
Although Star War’s fans can buy lightsabers in all of the above colors, there are some notable lightsaber colors left off of our list. That’s because we couldn’t find decent sabers in certain colors. However, since they are part of the Star Wars Universe (both the cinematic and extended universe), any guide on Star War’s lightsabers would be remiss without at least mentioning them, so here are a few other saber colors.
White Lightsabers
Ahsoka Tano famously used white sabers, and she used two of them at the same time. The color of this weapon was white because she had no affiliation with either the Jedi or the Sith. It’s a color often used by Imperial Knights.
Yellow Lightsabers
These sabers are used by a variety of different Jedi but the most notable include the Jedi Temple Guards and Jedi Sentinels. The most notable character who has used this weapon is Ahsoka Tano.
Orange Lightsabers
These sabers are often used by Jedi Knights who seem to flirt with the dark side. They are used by the Mandalorian Knights and by Master Yaddle.
The Dark Saber
This is the saber of legend. There was only one black saber created. It was created by Tarra Vizsla and it was once housed in the Jedi Temple. However, during the fall of the old republic, the saber was stolen. It was used by Sabine Wren, Bo-Katan Kryze and Kanan Jarrus.
Other Colors
Okay, to be honest, we still haven’t even scratched the surface on lightsaber colors in the Star Wars Universe. There are sabers in just about every color of the rainbow in the movies, games and comic books. Although these sabers can’t always be purchased, there are sometimes generic “light swords” that may have the color that you’re looking for in a saber available at any given time. All it takes it a little bit of research and a whole lot of imagination to put one of these swords to good use. That does it for us, so let us say just one more thing: May the Force be With You, or if it’s May 4th, then May the Fourth Be With You!
