Savant is an independent magazine of ideas for a more interesting tomorrow.
We publish essays and analysis for curious, practical readers: people who build things, make decisions that matter, and want to understand the forces shaping their work and their lives. Our writers know their subjects from the inside, and every piece we publish has been through an editor.
What we cover
We cover four subjects, and we try to cover them well.
Building a Business. How an idea becomes something that works and lasts: startups, small companies, independent projects and one person businesses, at the scale where most real building happens. Start with Building a Business.
Money Choices. How people earn, spend, save, invest and think about money, and why the psychology behind those choices matters more than most financial rules. Start with Money Choices.
Technology & AI. Not the technology for its own sake, but what it changes: in work, in learning, in business and in daily life. Start with How AI Is Changing the World.
People & Decisions. How we think, choose, work together and influence one another, alone and inside organizations. Start with How to Make Better Decisions.
Other subjects appear when a good piece calls for them. These four are our home.
How we work
Savant is edited by Jim Caldwell, who reads every piece before it is published and writes the essays that open each section.
Our writers are practitioners, researchers and specialists who contribute through our expert network. We choose pieces for what they add to the reader’s understanding, not for who wrote them or who they mention. Sponsored pieces, when we run them, are clearly labeled and edited to the same standard as everything else.
You can read how we make those decisions in our Editorial Standards, and meet the people who write for us on our Masthead.
